Sherif Hashem
Dr M Sherif Hashem, MD, PhD, F.A.C.C. is Consultant Cardiologist/Cardiac Imaging and serves as on-site organizer/local host of the course.
Chiara Bucciarelli-Ducci
Dr Bucciarelli-Ducci is a senior lecturer in cardiology/non-invasive imaging at the University of Bristol and consultant cardiologist at the Bristol Heart Institute, University Hospitals Bristol NHS Trust. She is also co-director of the Clinical Research and Imaging Centre (CRIC) Bristol. She also holds a honorary clinical senior lecturer position at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London as well as honorary consultant in the CMR Unit of the Royal Brompton Hospital.
Dr Bucciarelli-Ducci studied medicine and cardiology in Rome/ Italy, undertook research fellowships at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston/USA and at Feinberg Cardiovascular Research Institute, Northwestern University, Chicago/USA and received a PhD on CMR at Imperial College London in 2012. She was a clinical research fellow at the Royal Brompton hospital (2006-2010) and acting CMR consultant at the Heart Hospital, UCL London (2008-2010). In 2009 she was a finalist of the AHA Melvin Judkins Young Clinical Investigator award in Imaging.
Currently, she is the chair of education of the CMR section of the ESC/EACVI (European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging), as well as representing CMR in the ESC/EACVI international committee.
She is in the editorial board of the European Heart Journal Cardiovascular Imaging, a guest editor for the Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (JCMR), and a reviewerfor the main cardiology and cardiovascular imaging journals.
Sven Plein
Sven Plein is Professor of Cardiology and British Heart Foundation Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Leeds. He is a Consultant Cardiologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Leeds and holds an honorary Senior Lecturer contract with King’s College, London. Prof Plein studied Medicine in Marburg/Germany and received an MD from the Phillips University in Marburg/Germany in 1995 and my PhD from the University of Leeds in 2004.
Prof Plein’s main research interest is cardiovascular imaging, with a focus on cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). He has in excess of 125 publications in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters in this field.
He holds numerous positions in learned societies, including Vice-president of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging and Chairman of the Association’s CMR Section, Senior Associate Editor of European Heart Journal – Cardiovascular Imaging and he is a former member of the board of Trustees of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance.
